State symbols
In accordance with Article 19 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the symbols of the Republic of Belarus as a sovereign state are its State Flag, State Emblem, and National Anthem. The Law of the Republic of Belarus of July 5, 2004 “On State Symbols of the Republic of Belarus” defines the description and procedure for using the state symbols of the Republic of Belarus.
State flag of the Republic of Belarus
The national flag of the Republic of Belarus is a rectangular panel consisting of two horizontally arranged colored stripes: the upper one is red, 2/3 the width, and the lower one is green, 1/3 the width. Near the flagpole, a vertical Belarusian national ornament is painted red on a white field, making up 1/9 of the flag’s length. The ratio of the flag’s width to its length is 1:2. The flag is attached to a flagpole, which is painted gold (ochre).
During ceremonies and other special events, the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus is used with a diamond-shaped tip featuring a five-pointed star, similar to the one depicted on the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus. The tips are made of yellow metal.

The State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus is a gold outline of the state border of the Republic of Belarus, placed on a silver field, superimposed on the golden rays of the sun rising over the globe. At the top of the field is a five-pointed red star. The emblem is framed by a wreath of golden ears of grain, intertwined with clover blossoms on the right and flax blossoms on the left. The wreath is entwined three times on each side with a red and green ribbon. In the center of the ribbon, at the base of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus, the words “Republic of Belarus” are inscribed in two lines in gold.
The State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus may be reproduced in multicolor, two-color, or single-color (silver and gold) images. Cases in which multicolor, two-color, or single-color (silver and gold) images of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus may be displayed are determined by law.
National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus
The National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus is a musical and poetic work performed in cases stipulated by the Law of the Republic of Belarus of July 5, 2004 “On the State Symbols of the Republic of Belarus” and other legislative acts.
The National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus may be performed in orchestral, choral, orchestral and choral versions, or in other vocal, instrumental, or vocal and instrumental versions. Audio and video recordings, as well as television and radio broadcasts, may be used.
In vocal and vocal-instrumental performances, the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus is performed in full, but in instrumental performances, partial performance is permitted – the verse and chorus are played once.
During the official performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus, those present listen to (perform) it standing (men – without headgear, military personnel, and other persons required to wear uniforms – in accordance with the law).
If the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus is accompanied by the raising of the National Flag of the Republic of Belarus, those present, as a rule, turn to face the National Flag of the Republic of Belarus.
