Deputy Head of the State Ecological Expertise Department, Vladimir Gamezo, and Leading Specialist in State Ecological Expertise, Vitaliy Khmelenko, participated in a joint state ecological review of environmental impact assessment (EIA) materials for the nuclear power plant construction project in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The participation of the Centre’s employees as part of an international expert group is aimed at strengthening professional cooperation and developing practical, mutually beneficial collaboration in the field of state ecological expertise, as well as environmental impact assessment for nuclear energy facilities.
Key objectives of the cooperation:
- to gain unique practical experience as part of an international team of experts;
- to establish a solid foundation for mutually beneficial partnership and cooperation with the State Ecological Expertise Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
- to strengthen positions in the field of state ecological expertise and EIA.
The state ecological expertise was carried out based on the submitted EIA materials, including a site visit to the planned location of the nuclear power plant construction and operation (Farish District, Jizzakh Region, Republic of Uzbekistan).
During the review, specialists of the Centre, in cooperation with experts from the State Institution “Center for State Environmental Expertise” under the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Climate Change, formulated comments and recommendations for improving the project documentation related to the planned activity.
Cooperation with the Republic of Uzbekistan represents not only professional development, but also a contribution to the ecological safety of the planned activities.
