On May 1, the Republic of Belarus celebrates Labour Day — a nationwide public holiday established by Presidential Decree No. 157 of March 26, 1998. The holiday traces its origins back to the events of 1886 in Chicago, where workers advocated for the introduction of an eight-hour workday. Later, May 1 was proclaimed the Day of Workers’ Solidarity and, for a long time, was widely celebrated in many countries.
Today, Labour Day is perceived as a symbol of spring, respect for work, and the contribution of each individual to the development of society.
Today, the Centre’s employees took part in a ceremonial event held in Victory Park and organized by the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus.
